With “INSPIRATION” from Mel Beach, our October speaker, members began their own #30 Day Challenge. Members will share their personal stories with inspiration, personal guidelines, and time management challenges along the way, with final completion of the challenge at our January meeting!
IT’S NOT TO LATE TO START YOUR OWN JOURNEY!
Yes, the holidays often consume our time, but YOU own yourself 15 minutes of “CREATIVE PLAY!” Looking forward to hearing YOUR journey.
“The idea is simple: choose a “creative” project, do it every day for 30 days!
WHEN: Sew Along with LMQG members October 14 – November 14, 2024. OR create your own dates!
GUIDELINES: Be Flexible & Kind to yourself!
- Set a time commitment to yourself. 5-15 minutes, you decide
- Allow yourself to work ahead if you know the weekend is crazy
- Creativity creates more creativity
WHAT MAKES A GOOD PROJECT? Depends on what you want to get out of it. Practice a skill? Learn a new technique? Finish a project? Just have fun? Set a goal for yourself.
WHY SHOULD I DO THE PROJECT? Why not? Taking 5-10 mins out of your day to do something that you love! Because the creative process is earned through practice.
BUT I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT TO DO? Here are a few ideas:
- Skill Builder: practice a new technique
- Draw quilting motifs & designs
- Work on “Unfinished Projects” WIP
- Improv Triangles
- Work smaller – create blocks 2-3”
- Try another “art” project: watercolor painting, cross stitch, etc
- Create an Art Journal, doodle
- Document “All” the quilts/projects that you have made. Photograph all your quilts. Create Labels for all your quilts.
- Create a sampler of all the “stitches” in your machine
- Build fabric pallets with your stash
- Make a postcard everyday
The list is ENDLESS …. YOU DECIDE!
SHARE YOUR PROGRESS: Our January 7, 2025 meeting – we will share our progress, experiences, what we learned, pros and cons of the project!
Also join us on LMQG Facebook for inspiration and work in progress.

GUILD CHALLENGE – Winter 2024:
Let’s get started with a HOT challenge for winter in 2024. We’re asking you to make a HOT pad of any size or shape – round, square, rectangle. Consider that it will need to fit in a mailable envelope.
Use some type of insulation to protect the counter or table when using it with a hot serving piece –
extra batting layers, Pellon Insul-Fleece #975, something you already have.
The challenge part of this quick and easy project is to:
• use a new color combination
• use some scraps – we have plenty of those
• try different types of fabrics together
– cotton, wool, flannel, poly-mix, linen, denim
• add some hand sewing OR practice machine quilting
• ANYTHING your creative mind comes up with – have fun!
We are asking that you mail your hot pad mid-February so that everyone can bring theirs to the March 5 in-person meeting.
